Two years ago, right after I turned 40 I was diagnosed with stage 3 rectal cancer. Between the pelvic radiation and a complete hysterectomy that was advised as preventative, not to mention the radical surgery removing the cancer that didn’t heal for 6 months. After it was all said and done I was alive but I wasn’t happy. I was depressed trying to accept my new self. . On top of being physically deformed from the tumor removal and having to get used to a permanent colostomy, I found out that while I was working on staying alive my once very wonderful, stretchy and sloppy wet vagina had developed atrophy so bad I had to use a tiny dilator for weeks before I could think about attempting to have sex again with my long time partner. When we finally did it was so painful I felt like I was being ripped apart and his penis didn’t fit me anymore. Plus no matter how much lube I used it wasn’t enough and sex was excruciating.
